Netgenic: News and Comment originating in the Web or e-mail

The Drudge Report
Matt Drudge offers a simple but nearly exhaustive index of major news sources: wire services, newspapers, magazines and syndicated columnists. He also dishes the political dirt from a conservative perspective and enjoys being styled the "Walter Winchell of the Web."
NewsCenter
Lefty answer to Drudge from Common Dreams. Another excellent collection of news and comment links. As a bonus, a very nice set of government links.
Feed
Daily topical news portal, balanced sources.
Bob's Fridge Door
Political satire. The author faces the daunting task of topping the absurdity and tawdriness of real news. He usually succeeds.
Slate
Intended to be the first money-making net-only news periodical. Establishment left wing.
World Net Daily
Part of the rebirth of the partisan press online. Definitely right wing to fringe.
Wired News
News for the "superconnected." Both politics and technical issues.
Red Herring
Information technology news and views.

Print Crossover: Pouring all or some content from print publications

Christian Science Monitor
Offers very good coverage of human rights issues outside the U.S.
The San Jose Mercury News
Daily paper of the digerati.
The Financial Times
An outstanding newspaper for international coverage. Has become an open site.
The New York Times
Voice of the establishment left. Read in the morning to find out what ABCNBCCBSCNNNPRPBS will say all day. Read other papers in your area for real original reporting, then see it become "news" weeks later in the NYT. You do need to create a password for yourself, but the site is free (still).
Wall Street Journal
Headlines and selected editorials for free. Buy a subscription for the best daily in the nation.
The Economist
Outstanding newsweekly. Both international and U.S. coverage vastly superior to any of the U.S. weeklies. Current issue is free, but you have to get a paid subscription for access to their archives.
The Tacoma News Tribune
Hey, it's my hometown paper and I like to check up on the sports scores and local doings, OK?
Arizona Star | Tucson Citizen | Arizona Republic
Arrayed left to right by slant. Check for Mexican border, water, and state political coverage.
